101 Dance

Interior design has a lot to do with how the body moves through space. So our newest assignment is to create a dance. This dance is to the song that we have been working with and that was represented with an image and a poem.
This first video is my first installment of my dance. I knew the main steps I wanted to do, but had to work on a bridge move.
In the next video, I came up with a bridge and an ending and a way to put in down for someone else to follow.

101 Font Book

Fonts subconsciously speak to the reader just as much as the words do. Certain fonts are easier to read so they are used in novels and newspaper, while some are more attention grabbing so they are used in ads and magazines. As a designer, it is important to know what my designs say to people. This is why we had to create a font book. The front cover is my first name and the back cover is my last name; both in my handwriting, as I think it expresses me the best. Inside I have a page for each letter of the alphabet, so that I may compare the different ways a letter can be expressed. In the back of the book, I have a few pages with particular fonts on them. I have a page of logos, decorative fonts, cursive, handwritten, script, sans script, and miscellaneous. This made me curious of how different people write; so I have a few pages of people signatures. Finally, I made a folder in the back so I could keep some loose paper in it because I practiced writing in different fonts. This project, though it appears random, actually is very useful. The things we create speak for us, so it is important that they say the right thing.

110 Name Tag

When making the name tag, I wanted to make sure my name could be seen from all sides. Originally wanted to make a pyramid out of 2 different colors. While I was playing with them before I put them together I noticed how they made this shape, and I liked it. Using all 4 sides, I wrote my name in my 4 favorite ways.
Then we had to include a self portrait. Since we were practicing contour drawing, I made the portrait out of only lines, leaving out the shading and detail. I think it is an interesting portrait that makes one focus on the lines and structure of my face.

110 Pumpkin

At first when drawing this picture, I understood that it was important to focus on the background. I drew the outline of the pumpkin and worked on the value of the shadows and stuff behind the pumpkin. After critic, I thought I should work on the shadow and shade the pumpkin as well. So i increased the darkness of the shadow directly beneath the shadow and blended it better. If I could change anything, it would be to get rid of the outline of the shadow.

101 The Lesson of the Moth

In this poem, the moth teaches us that it is more important to live life fully and to be happy. At first the narrator does not understand the moth's ways, but we learn at the end that he is beginning to get what the moth is talking about. Even though the moth burns himself, he is happy and beautiful, and the author is jealous that he is not also happy. Life is not merely about surviving, but living.

110 Drawing Practice

110
Drawing practice
Image 1&3: Show a pile of boxes drawn in perspective. In image 1 in the top drawing, shows the box in front drawn with good proportion and perspective. However the tall box in the back has a crooked foreshortening line that makes in look off. The bottom drawing of image 1 has a better perspective of the top of the box.
Image 2: Exercise 3.1 was to draw cubes and get used to the idea of  proportion. Number 7 is my favorite cube, as it is most proportionate and has good technique.
Image 4: Exercise 3.4 was to make a pyramid out of the cube, which required finding the center of one of the squares and using that point to project lines from it to the corners of the base. Exercise 3.5 was to make a cylinder or cone. That required finding the center of one square and drawing a circle, in perspective, in the opposite square. Number 2 and 4 are shaded for the full affect.
Image 5: We then had to draw a bottle using the box technique for exercise 3.6. This required making a smaller box inside the original to make the nose of the bottle and then projecting that square back to make the neck of the bottle.

101 Skewers

101
Use 12 skewers and 12 4x6  cards to create 2 spaces.
The skewers, that support the cards, create an implied space below the cards and the cards create a circular space within them.
